Washed up on a remote island in a Pacific storm, Michael curls up and waits to die. But when he wakes, there is fresh fruit beside him. He is not alone… Michael Morpurgo’s vivid story of a young castaway’s struggle for survival is an unmissable modern classic. Fusing adventure and mystery, it is a heartbreaking but uplifting tale of love, loss, hope and redemption.

Winner of the Red House Children’s Book Award.

Michael’s life is ordinary until his parents become redundant and his family buy a boat. Michael and his family sail around the world, visiting far away places with his dog ‘Stella-Artois’. Michael Morpurgo uses his excellent skills to bring the characters and settings to life. The story is written as a diary as Michael is retracing his childhood memories. He makes friends with a man named Kensuke after falling into the water. I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys adventure, mystery and geographical stories.
