The Power of Five: Evil Star

After the terror of Raven’s Gate, Matt thinks his days of fighting evil are over. But in distant Peru, a second gate is opening, and Matt is needed to battle dark forces there… Matt is sent to Peru by the Nexus, a mysterious organisation created to defend the Five. But there is a traitor in the Nexus: a traitor who wants to see Matt dead. As danger closes in, Matt is whisked into a plot where space-age conspiracies collide with ancient Inca secrets. I absolutely love Anthony Horowitz’s books. They have the right amount of funny stuff, serious stuff and mysterious stuff, which makes the books brilliant.

I love this book’s cover. It’s bright, intriguing and full of color. Evil Star is a catchy title, and the little quote (When it flickers, the world dies…) is really mysterious. My kind of book!

The Power of Five is a series of books that are about 5 teenagers with special powers. They guard gates that stop an evil force called “The Old Ones” from entering this world. Last time the Old Ones came, it was bad news.

This is the second book in the series. Matt, the main character in the first book, Raven’s Gate, and one of the Gatekeepers is sent to Peru because the Nexus, a secret organisation that live to protect the gatekeepers, sent him there because they suspect that someone was trying to open a gate, and Matt was the only one who could stop it. But when they get there, trouble is waiting for Matt. His best friend and guardian, Richard is taken and Matt is beaten up by the police. Matt’s saved by Pedro, a Peruvian begger, and Pedro takes Matt to his home. It isn’t till later the Matt discovers that Pedro is one of the Five, and his powers can literally save lives… Will Matt find Richard? Will Matt be able to stop the gate from opening? And what has all this got to do with the mysterious lines in the Nazca Desert? Find out in Evil Star!

I loved this book and I’d recommend it for people from 9 and up. This book is so good-even adults would love it! I’d recommend reading Raven’s Gate first though-it’ll make the book seem better.

My star rating is definitely 5/5!
