Young Samurai: The Way of the Warrior

August, 1611. Jack Fletcher is shipwrecked off the coast of Japan. His beloved father and the ship’s crew are all dead, slaughtered by ninja pirates. Rescued by the legendary sword master Masamoto Takeshi, Jack starts training as a samurai warrior. And so his new life begins. But life at the samurai school is a constant fight for survival. Even with his friend Akiko by his side, Jack is singled out by bullies and treated as an outcast. With courage in his heart and his sword held high, can Jack prove himself – and face a deadly rival?

This is a truly wonderful book. It is the first book in the series and possibly the best. It is set in the time of feudal Japan. The fact that it is based on facts made it all the more interesting. I recommend this book for Ages 9-12.
